[Job Title] Field Software Engineer, Korea
[Role]
The Field Software Engineer is responsible for determining the root cause of issues on implementations of MNCs software on major consumer electronics products.
This includes mobile phones, tablets, TVs, and other consumer electronics manufactured by major companies in Korea.
The Field Software Engineer will need to utilize knowledge in software, IR protocols, and hardware to determine the root cause.
This person would also provide the first level of support in any questions on MNC’s SDK.
We are seeking a versatile engineer who is skilled at testing, and utilizing knowledge in software, hardware, and MNC database areas to find the source of any issues.
[Position in the Organization]
The Field Software Engineer, Korea reports to the Country Manager of the Korea Region office.
The position is based in Suwon, South Korea.
[Requirements]
A BSEE or BSCS with maximum 5 years of experience.
Native level Korean language ability is required, as well as proficiency in English.
Experience working with a major consumer electronics company in Korea is desired.
Must be able to understand source code such as C/Java and must have a strong ability to think analytically to determine the source of issues.
Must have a desire to learn new technologies.
MNC is a global company, and related teams are located in other countries.
Must be available to discuss issues with global teams that are located in other time zones.
[Responsibilities]
Provide front-line support at customers in Korea to determine the root cause of technical issues, primarily related to software APIs and IR control databases utilized. MNC provides both hardware and software solutions, and testing responsibilities will span all areas including software/hardware/IR protocol/database. Must be motivated to learn and apply knowledge in all of these areas.
- IR Database root cause determination
- IR protocol level analysis as needed using MNC tools in terms of source code level
- Field testing in Korea using consumer electronics devices in stores, at engineering development centers
- Gather samples of remote controls to be sent to other MNC offices for analysis and database additions
- Software Testing and First-Level Implementation Support
- Evaluate customer implementations of MNC software
- Provide first-level support on questions related to MNCI’s SDK and API
- Source code may be in C, Java, or C++
- Operating Systems utilized include Android, Tizen, Windows Mobile 8, Linux, and others
- Hardware Verification
- Provide front-line analysis of hardware issues related to MNC semiconductor products
- Coordinate with related global teams
- Discuss database issues with overseas database engineering teams, and clearly convey improvements needed
- Assist by providing root cause information and samples of products as needed
- For hardware verification issues, discuss with Electrical Engineering teams globally

[Required Education, Experience, and Characteristics]
- BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
- 5 years(maximum 5 years) of experience working in or interfacing with one or more major consumer electronics companies
- Native level Korean language
- Proficient in English language
- Ability to comprehend C / Java / C++ source code
- Experience or strong interest in working with multiple operating systems, including Android, Tizen, Windows Mobile 8, Linux, and others
- Strong analytical skills, ability to determine root cause of issues using various tools
- Strong ability to communicate and summarize information
- Flexible in job scope, handling software testing, hardware testing, product analysis, interfacing with major customer engineers, and sample procurement as needed
- Passion for learning about and applying new technology
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Work experience with international colleagues or clients
- Willingness to work on-site at customer locations and elsewhere as needed in Korea
