The Field Applications Engineer assists in promoting and integrating MNC solutions directly with customers. MNC is a global lead in the design and manufacture of remote controls, and software and chipsets that detect and determine how to control devices. The person in this position mainly handles Samsung, but other customers will be engaged as well. The FAE works internally with software teams, product management, Sales, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial design, and other teams during the initial phase of development. The Applications Engineer is a key technical interface to our customers, working in cooperation with Sales, and taking the lead driving towards the best solution. The goal is to bring the product to development, utilizing strong technical, interpersonal, and leadership abilities.
[Position in the Organization]
The Senior Field Applications Engineer, Korea reports to the Sr. Manager of Applications Engineering. The position is located at MNC’s office in Korea.
[Requirements and Responsibilities]
Requirements:
- A BSEE, BS Computer Engineering, or BSCS with minimum 5 years of experience. Experience programming in C and using Linux.
- Experience interfacing with a major consumer electronics company in Korea, such as Samsung or LG. Background in software, with an interest in being the lead technical interface to a customer.
- Strong communication ability, strong ability to document requirements/specifications, and ability to drive a project.
Responsibilities:
Specify and coordinate MNC products in Korea for a major consumer electronics customer. Collaborate with the customer directly to understand their needs. Collaborate with Sales to promote the most applicable MNC solution and coordinate with engineering teams to drive the initial architecture and cost determinations.
• Be the lead engineering architect of high volume consumer electronics remote control products
• Define requirements and specifications based on discussions with customer
• Explain performance/cost tradeoffs of various approaches
• Gather members of MNC engineering team to discuss engineering approaches and tradeoffs.
• Drive progress on design, feasibility, and cost information
• Communicate needs clearly. Over-communicate so that understanding is clear.
• Document and communicate engineering requirements
• Write the engineering product requirements, covering software and electrical needs
• Lead meetings with engineering teams to verify specified product and timeline is feasible
• Lead unit cost and NRE estimations, and inform Sales
• Utilize background in Software
• Discuss software product details with manufacturers of consumer electronics devices
• Determine feasibility of implementing MNC software into their product ecosystem
• Answer high-level questions regarding software integration, OS requirements, etc.
• Dive into source code when needed to understand software behavior
• Technical promotion of MNC hardware/software solutions to the Korea market, supporting the Sales team
• Support the Sales team as the lead engineering expert in key high volume customer meetings
• Have frequent contact with customer regarding product development and technical questions

[Required Education, Experience, and Characteristics]
• BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science
• Education and experience with C and Linux
• Strong skills in using MS Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
• 5+ years of experience working in or interfacing with one or more major consumer electronics companies
• Native Korean language ability, communication internally in English to USA based staff
• Strong communication and project coordination skills, with customers and internally
• Strong ability to drive progress and ensure deliverables are not missed
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Professional and commercial attitude with a strong technical background
• Willingness and ability to travel for customer meetings and trainings
• Primary customer visits will be in Korea, near Suwon and Seoul

• C software programming, working within Linux
• RF technologies, especially Bluetooth and RF4CE
• HDMI CEC/EDID interfaces
• Voice, audio, microphones, audio compression
• Working with members of Industrial Design teams or product design firms
• Working with Mechanical Engineering teams that design consumer electronics
• Interfacing with members of factories that produce consumer electronics
